Frozen Chapter 2

Steve was upset about the cold weather. He was supposed to go out with Bobby and the girls to The Point. He loved to take them out there and tell them stories about killers that roamed in the woods in search of their next victim. No one knew for sure if it was a myth or if it was real, which made it even creepier. The Point was blocked off from all traffic, so the only way one could reach it was by foot. There was a lake and endless fields and forests. The drive was about 30 minutes long from his suburban home. Now that they had to stay inside he wasn't sure what he would do. Most likely, he would just spend a quiet evening indoors with Brandy.

Steve's phone startled him out of his thoughts. He answered it on the second ring. "Hello?" he said quickly.

"Hey! We still gonna do something tonight Steve-o?" Brandy asked.

"You know it girl!" he said. "What do you want to do? I was thinking about going out to The Point, but all this rain and ice changed my mind."

"I have a much better idea," said Brandy. "Me and Videl were invited to a bitchin party on the east side in some warehouse. Bobby already said he's down to go, what about you?"

There is nothing Steve liked better than to candy flip while he break danced to jungle music. "Hell yeah I'm down!" He responded with glee. "You want me to drive or are one of you going to drive?"

"If you don't mind, I'd like for you to drive," she said. " I don't like driving on the ice."

"Yeah, that's no problem," he said. I'll just drive extra cautious. What time does the party start?"

"It starts at midnight, so if you want to come over beforehand for a little fun, you're more than welcome to," she said seductively.

"Sounds good to me baby. I'll see you in 5 minutes," was Steve's response. After he hung up the phone he sprayed cologne onto his shirt, grabbed his keys and jacket, and went out to his car. It was much colder now than it was when he got off work. Steve's windows were iced over, so he had to wait for the car to heat up before he left.

He couldn't believe what happened earlier that day at work. This was his third year working at Waldo's Pet Store, and he never witnessed anything quite like the events of that day. When he walked into the store and saw that crazed man throwing aquariums onto the floor, something sparked inside Steve he never knew existed. On instinct he ran out to his car and grabbed his baseball bat out of his trunk. He snuck up behind the criminal while he was harassing an old lady for her wedding ring. He swung the bat with full force against the side of the criminal's right kneecap. The robber instantly dropped to the ground and let out a startled cry of pain.

"I suggest you get out of here before I take out your other leg!" Steve remembered himself saying. The man didn't argue with that and limped out as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast. Remembrance of the crowd's cheers brought a proud grin to Steve's face.

The heat blowing through the vents, defrosted the windows, and he was able to see clearly. Steve started driving towards Brandy's house with caution.

The rest of the day at work went smoothly. Steve wished he could be in charge everyday. He thought about asking Tim for a raise the next day at work. His credit card debt and bills were leaving him with barely any spending money. He had enough money to pay for his drugs though. That's all that mattered to Steve at that moment in time. He was going to dance the night away and then take Brandy home and make sweet love to her.

As he pulled up to Brandy's house he realized he forgot his condoms. "Maybe she has some," he thought. He walked carefully to her front door, trying not to slip on the ice. He was about to ring the doorbell until he saw a note taped to the door that said Come inside baby, I'm waiting for you in the bedroom. He opened the unlocked door and double locked it behind him.

The familiar smell of rose petals and cheap incense filled Steve's senses as he walked through the dimly lit hallway. Entering Brandy's room he expected to see her in something more tasteful than gray sweat pants and a Van Halen t-shirt. Her long red hair was pulled into a ponytail.

"So you get the shit?" He asked her in a sly tone.

She replied, "You know it hun. Close your eyes and stick out your tongue."

Steve did as he was instructed to do, and felt her place quite a few small paper squares onto his tongue. "How many hits did you just give me?" He asked her as he began to open his eyes. With catlike reflexes, she put her hand over his eyes, to prevent him from seeing.

"I didn't say you could open your eyes yet." She said playfully to her lover. Steve then heard her remove her clothes and drop them onto the floor. Sounds of her rummaging through her belongings filled his ears. "Should I peek?" He thought to himself.

"No peeking!" she said, almost as if she was reading his mind. The soft footsteps that approached him made his heart beat rapidly. He felt gentle hands run through his hair and then a blindfold was put around his head. He was forced onto his back with a gentle push. He heard the sound of chains rattling as she leaned over to her dresser. "Oh no, not the fuzzy handcuffs again!" He thought.

She put one of the handcuffs around Steve's left wrist. He heard the other side snap shut as she attached it to the bedpost. She did the same to his other arm. Pain shot through his body as she drug her nails down his chest. He cherished the moment when she was in these moods, which was rare. Normally he was the dominant one in bed, but every once in a while she would get in a mood.

He felt her unbuckling his belt and she pulled it out of his belt loops with precision and quickness, tossing it onto the floor. Steve faintly felt the beginning effects of the LSD he had just ate moments before start to kick in. Somewhere in the back of his brain he felt a tingly feeling. She began to lightly run her nails over his stomach and sides while gently biting his neck. After pinching his nipple as hard as she could, she bit his neck harder and harder until the pain was unbearable. A few tears fell from one of his eyes. The pain was replaced with pleasure as she began to gently stroke his manhood. She eased up on the biting for a moment, only to apply more pressure than before. Steve's entire body stiffened for a split second, which caused him to moan with pleasure. After some more fooling around, they had the most explosive sex either one of them had ever experienced. By the time they climaxed together, his acid trip was starting to get intense. When he came inside of her, a fear shot through him as he realized they were not wearing any protection.

He pushed Brandy off of him, getting a scared look on his face. "What's the matter? Did I do something wrong?" she asked him nervously.

"No nothing is wrong. I'm just feeling the effects of this acid now." Steve said, still kind of freaked out. This was the first time ever he had sex without a condom. He hoped he hadn't caught any diseases from her. He had heard stories about Brandy being promiscuous before he started dating her.

She looked at him with a look of uncertainty. "You sure everything is all right Steve?"

"Yeah everything is fine," he said. "It's eleven thirty, do you think we should get going to the party now?"

She nodded at Steve and said, "Yeah it's getting to be about that time, we still have to pick up Bobby and Videl."

After they were dressed, they headed out to Steve's car. As they were driving on the highway to Bobby's house, Brandy asked him, "So Steve, do you ever want kids?"

"Maybe someday," he replied. "I want to be able to give them a good life."

"I hear that," said Brandy. "This acid is pretty good, my entire body feels like it's non existent. How you feeling?"

"I'm feeling pretty good, it's a clean buzz." he agreed.

"Do you ever wonder what the stars are?" she asked Steve.

"Nope," he replied.

"How come?" She asked.

"Because I know what they are. They are giant fireballs in the sky," he said.

"I know that you goof!" She said, as she playfully smacked his arm. "I mean, how did they get there? How are they flying through space at two million miles per hour without running into each other? How...."

Steve cut her off as they pulled up to Bobby's apartment building, "You think too much when you take acid. If you keep talking like that, you're going to scare them away as soon as they get in the car."

"Oh you know you like it when I talk like that!" She said as she smacked him in the arm again.

Steve pulled out his cell phone and called Bobby's apartment. It rang 3 times and then Bobby picked up. "Yo!" Bobby said as he answered his phone.

"Is that how you always answer your phone?" Steve asked him.

"No, only when I know it's your bitch ass calling. We'll be down in a second. Peace!" Bobby said and the hung up the phone.

A few moments later, Videl and Bobby came out of the apartment building and approached the car. Videl lost her balance and slipped on the ice. Luckily Bobby caught her just in time.

"Better be careful," Bobby said to Videl. "It's getting slippery out here."

After they were situated in the car, Bobby extended his arm toward the front seats. Four pills rested in his hand. Brandy and Steve each took two, washing them down with some old Gatorade.

"What kind of music do you guys want to hear?" Steve asked his passengers.

"It don't matter to me man," said Bobby. "I know you have good taste in music. Just make sure its upbeat."

Steve looked through his booklet of compact discs. He decided he was in the mood for some drum n' bass. He popped a mix CD into the player and began to drive. Once he got onto the expressway, the conditions were safer. He saw salt trucks up ahead with blinking arrows attached to the back of them.

"Sweet, now I can drive fast!" Steve said with a huge grin on his face. His Honda Civic was only a 4 cylinder, but the custom super charger he installed made it a force to be reckoned with. He floored the gas pedal, throwing his passenger's heads back against their seats. When the car reached 95 mph, he shifted it into 4th gear, and floored it again. The Civic flew by the salt truck at 135 mph, leaving it in the dust.

"Woooooooooooooooooo!" Screamed Brandy. "You go cowboy!"

Videl tried to tell Steve to slow down, but the music drowned out her voice. Bobby gave her a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder letting her know it was ok. They passed a Detroit Police Officer, but he didn't seem to mind that they were speeding.

When they pulled off the freeway, Steve forgot about the icy roads. He fishtailed into a cement wall, sending sparks flying as his rear bumper slid across the concrete. He slammed on the brakes and came to a halt.

"Fuck!" Steve yelled as he unbuckled his seatbelt and turned down his stereo. He opened his car door and walked to get a better view of the back bumper. Other than a few scratches, there didn't appear to be any other damage. Satisfied that his car was all right, he went back inside.

"See I told you that you were going to fast!" Videl shrieked. "We almost died!"

Steve replied with slight annoyance in his voice, "Everything is cool. We are almost to the party, so just relax."

Back on the road, Steve's buzz was now growing more intense every minute. The oncoming headlights were blinding to Steve. The lights shot multi colored beams in all directions. The buildings melted into the ground. He slowly crept past a man wearing a long green trench coat. The bottom of the coat was split into numerous pieces, each piece slithering like a snake. One of the man's eyes was the size of a grapefruit. The other was the size of a cherry. The grapefruit sized eye grew to the size of a pumpkin. His bottom lip dripped to the ground like melting plastic while the snake's tongues repeatedly darted in and out of their mouths.

"You see that shit?" Steve asked Brandy.

"What shit?" Brandy asks with a confused look on her face.

"That guy over there." Steve said while pointing out the window.

"What about him?" Said Brandy. "I see bums all the time, why you look so freaked out? Are you hallucinating or something?"

"Yeah, I'm tripping pretty good now. That guy was melting all over the friggin street. Hey, that looks like the place." Steve said with a silly grin on his face as he pulled over to the side of the road to park.

There was a long line of people, wearing giant pants, carrying glow sticks, and wearing glow in the dark jewelry, waiting to get in. The four newcomers went to the back of the line. Steve shivered from the cold and his teeth chattered uncontrollably. He put his arm around Brandy and pulled her close, trying to keep himself warm. The line was moving slowly. People were getting turned away for not having proper identification.

A large white male with a blue Mohawk and several facial piercings was getting very close to a security guard's face. The punk rocker shouted about unequal rights. The guard was telling him to back off. The angry punk refused and told the security guard to go fuck himself and then angrily shoved him into a wall. The security guard's head bounced off of the bricks, causing him to get dizzy and drop to his knees. Three large security guards instantly tackled the punk rocker. The smallest of the three had his boot on the back of the punk's neck and head, forcing the side of his face against the concrete ground.

The punk was outraged. "What the fuck do you think your doing?" He shouted at the security guards. "I'm gonna sue you guys for this! Your not even real cops! Your just wannabe pigs!"

"Shut up boy," the fattest of the three grunted as he kicked the punk in the jaw. Two of his teeth shot out of his mouth and bounced off the cement. One bounced into a sewer, which later became a rat toy. The security guards dragged the man into an alley while he spit out blood and tooth fragments.

"Yeah, remind me not to piss these guys off." Steve said in a laughing fit. His friends laughed with him. Other people in line were looking at them like they were sadistic for laughing at something so horrible. To Steve, the people all looked like waterfalls that were pouring melted plastic onto the sidewalk.

After waiting in line for a few more minutes, they finally made it to the entrance. They each paid the twenty-dollar cover charge and went inside. The dj was playing hard house music. Steve liked house music but found it hard to dance too. He couldn't wait until later, when the drum n' bass music started. He wanted to show off his new signature dance moves he had been practicing.

"I'm going to go explore." Steve told his friends. He wandered into a back room with Sony Playstations. Kids with bugged out eyes, were sitting on milk crates playing the video games intensely. The next room had black lights everywhere, making his shirt look incredibly dirty from the glowing lint. There were black leather couches lining the walls. Steve decided to sit down and wait for the horrid house dj to get off the turntables. Brandy, on the other hand, loved house music. Anything that she could shake her ass to she appreciated.

An attractive Asian girl with long bleach blonde hair sat down next to Steve. He felt her gazing at him, so he made eye contact.

"Hi," she said shyly, while playing with her hair. "My name is Tila, what's yours?"

"My name is Steve. Are you from around here?" He asked her.

"No, I live in Georgia. I'm here visiting relatives I haven't seen in years," she explained. "One of my cousins brought me here to this party, it's pretty neat. What about you?"

"I've lived in Redford my entire life," he said.

A smile appeared on Tila's face as she rustled through her purse. "That's where I'm staying! I'll be here all week!" She said as she wrote down her phone number on the back of a florist's business card and gave it to Steve. "Give me a call sometime?"

All Steve could do was nod because her bright green eyes mesmerized him. He put the girl's phone number into his back pocket.

Tila started teasing her hair and said to Steve, "My back is killing me! You wouldn't want to rub it would you?"

"Sure," he said eagerly. As he scooted closer to her, she pulled her hair away from her neck. Just as he was about to start giving her a massage he heard, "Ahem!"

Steve looked over and saw Brandy standing in front of him. She was tapping her foot on the ground and had her hands on her hips.

"I was just..." Steve started to say until Brandy interrupted him. "I know what you were just doing," she said in a snobbish tone. She sat down between Steve and Tila, forcing them both to scoot away in opposite directions.

"We'll I'm going to go find my cousins, give me a call sometime cutie." Tila said to Steve as she winked at him and walked away. Steve was staring at her ass as she walked across the room.

"Stop looking at her ass!" Brandy said to Steve in a jealous tone. "And why did she say call me? Did she give you her phone number?"

"No, I don't know what that was all about, I just met her," Steve lied.

"Yeah I bet," said Brandy with disbelief in here eyes. "So you gonna come dance with me or what? I've been dancing all by myself since we got here!"

"Yeah sure," Steve said. He hated dancing to House music, but would do it to make Brandy happy.

As Steve was on the dance floor, he saw Tila out of the corner of his eye intensely staring at him. She was standing alone against a wall, smoking a cigarette. The disco lights passed over her body repeatedly, hypnotizing him. He couldn't hear the music or see anybody else. All he saw was Tila, staring directly into his eyes from across the room.

"I have to use the bathroom!" He shouted into Brandy's ear. She nodded her head to let him know she heard him. When Steve passed through the crowd of dancing people, he felt their energy absorb into his brain. The spinning disco lights made trails of lucent colors all around Steve. It felt like he was inside of a carnival from another dimension.

After stumbling over a few dozen people, Steve finally found the bathroom. He went to the nearest stall, leaving the door open behind him. He hated to urinate after taking LSD. For some reason his urine seemed to come out extremely slow, and not very much of it at a time. The process sometimes took two minutes or more, when it was normally a thirty-second job.

After he flushed the toilet, he heard a voice behind him. "Took you long enough." Tila's quiet voice sent tingles up Steve's spine, stimulating his eardrums. She approached him with her hands folded in front of her. "You don't mind that I came in here do you?" She asked him.

Being not quite sure how to reply, he said, "No, I don't mind."

"Good," Tila said with a devilish look in her eyes. She stepped into the stall with Steve, and pushed him against the wall. After she shut and locked the door, she approached him and grabbed the back of his head and pulled his lips toward hers. The kiss shot waves of energy through Steve's body as her tongue caressed his.

"I want you now." She whispered to him, taking his hand and placing it between her legs. Her panties were soaking wet, dripping onto Steve's fingers. After she unbuckled his belt, his pants dropped to the floor. She yanked his boxers down and propped herself on the septic tank. "So what are you waiting for? I said I want you now!" she ordered Steve. The sex they had was short and intense. When Steve finished it felt too good to pull out. They held each other for several minutes kissing, as they bathed in the afterglow. After they got dressed, they agreed that Steve would walk out first, and Tila shortly afterwards. They did not want to arouse any suspicion of the recent events.

Steve walked out onto the dance floor and scanned the crowd for Brandy. He didn't see her anywhere. On the other side of the floor he saw Videl and Bobby dancing together. He asked them if they had seen Brandy lately, and they told him she went towards the black light room.

He almost walked past Brandy, but realized that she was playing Mortal Kombat with another girl. He sat down on the milk crate next to her in front of an empty Playstation. "Hey what's up?" he asked, and then kissed her cheek.

"That sure was a long trip to the bathroom," she said without turning her eyes away from the television screen. "You fall in?"

"Yeah, it wouldn't come out right away," he used as an excuse. The girl sitting next to Brandy turned her eyes toward Steve with a look of disgust on her face.

"You sure you weren't jerking it?" She asked Steve accusingly. "I know how you get when you're on ecstasy." Brandy's opponent snickered.

"No I wasn't jerkin it! Do you think I'd actually do that in a public place? God!" Steve said defensively.

"Chill out," Brandy said to Steve. "I was only playing, don't sound so guilty. Say, isn't that your music playing out there? Shouldn't you be showing off your new dance moves?"

"What? Are you trying to get rid of me?" Steve asked.

"Yeah, I'm trying to get rid of you," Brandy said sarcastically. "Get your ass out there and show them what you got. I'll be done getting my ass kicked soon and I'll go watch you."

"All right thanks babe," he said, kissing her on the cheek again. When Steve approached the dance floor he saw a circle of people with a break-dancer in the middle. The crowd was cheering him on, waving their fists in the air. Steve studied the dancer and thought to himself, "That guy is an amateur."

After the break-dancer was finished dancing, he stepped out of the circle. Steve saw that this was his chance to show off his new moves, so he did his usual opening move. He did a back flip into the middle of the circle, landing on his hands. He balanced himself on one hand, dropped his leg to the ground, and gave himself a strong push as his head lay on the ground. The push caused Steve to spin on his head over and over again. The crowed cheered and whistled.

Getting bored of spinning on his head, as was the crowd also, Steve put his hands on the floor and did a hand spring into the air. When he landed, his right foot hit the ground before he expected it to, which twisted his ankle. Steve fell to the ground and let out a cry of pain. Brandy ran through the crowd and kneeled before him.

"Are you all right?" she asked him with sincere care in her voice.

"I think I hurt my ankle pretty bad," said Steve.

"Awww poor baby," said Brandy, as she helped Steve to his feet. "Are you going to be able to walk?"

"Let me try," said Steve as he attempted a step. "Ow!" He screamed as he almost fell to the floor.

"Ok I'm taking you home," said Brandy in a concerned tone.

"It's no big deal, I'll just walk it off," he said.

"I'll be the judge of that," she said as she kneeled down. She pulled up Steve's pant leg and saw his ankle was already swollen.

"See I told you I was fine," Steve said.

"You are not fine!" she yelled. "We are going home right now and we are going to put some ice on your ankle."

Tired of arguing, Steve agreed to go back home. On the way out of the party, he scanned the crowd for one last glimpse of Tila. She was nowhere to be found. Steve let Brandy drive his car home because his ankle started to hurt even worse than before. He compared his ankles and noticed the hurt one was almost twice the size of the other ankle.

"I'm going to have to see a doctor if this isn't better after I wake up," Steve said.

"Yeah it looks like you messed it up pretty bad," said Brandy with a sad look on her face. "I'll drive you there if you end up going."

"Thanks, I'll probably need a ride," he responded.

After they dropped Bobby and Videl off, they went back to Steve's house. Brandy helped Steve get comfortable on the couch and then went into the kitchen to get a bag of ice for his swollen ankle. She looked at the clock, which read 6:30 a.m. "Time flies when your having fun." She said out loud. When she walked back into the living room, Steve was sleeping on the couch with a look of content on his face.

Steve's dreams were many dreams combined into one. First he was in a church, dressed in a red velvet tuxedo. Brandy and Tila were both dressed in wedding dresses holding spiked whips. The priest was Satan, who was pointing at Steve and moving his mouth without any sound passing through his lips. The brides were whipping Steve over and over again while they silently laughed. Their mouths moved also but there was no sound. The only sound he could hear was the ticking of an old fashioned clock. Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock. The statue of Mary, the supposed mother of Christ, was on fire. There was an oversized statue of Jesus Christ hanging upside down above Steve's head. Jesus was spitting rotting fetuses out of his mouth into the pews. Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock. Steve looked into the crowd and saw his entire family. They were all chained up in shackles being prodded with pitchforks by flying demons with huge dragon-like wings, while being splattered with dead babies. The brides continued to whip him repeatedly, and the pain was real.

Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock. The whips turned into an octopus. Steve was now underwater. A fleet of octopi was attacking him. He tried to swim to the surface. He could see the daylight, but a thick sheet of ice wouldn't let him reach the atmosphere. Repeatedly he tried to reach the surface to take a breath of air but his head kept bumping off of the ice. Suddenly an underwater tornado came and sucked him under the water. His chest felt like it was going to explode from the lack of oxygen and thought for sure he was going to give in and inhale a lungful of water. He fell out of a ceiling and landed on a miniature chair. He looked to the front of the classroom and saw his first grade teacher standing there, the one Steve had always had a crush on. She opened her mouth as if she was speaking, but no sound came out. Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock. He realized all the kids were pointing and laughing at him. When he looked down he found out why. He was completely naked. He panicked and ran out of the classroom.

When he left the classroom, he expected to see a hallway. Instead, he was on an airplane. He looked around for any familiar faces. He saw Tila and she motioned for him to come sit down. She let him squeeze by her and he sat down next to the window. He looked into Tila's eyes as she spoke to him. Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock. He turned his head away from Tila and looked through the window. They were very low to the ground, not even a hundred feet high. Steve could only see one thing, ice statues. Beautifully sculptured statues of people covered every square foot of land as far as he could see.

Brandy could not understand how Steve always fell asleep on acid. Her ecstasy buzz was gone, but her acid trip was still in full effect. She enjoyed her buzz now, but knew in a couple hours she would not be enjoying it. She hated the feeling she got when she was coming down from LSD. It made her feel dirty, which made her constantly wash her hands.

For now she was feeling pretty good though. She wouldn't feel the negative effects for a while longer and decided she should enjoy her buzz while it was still fun. She couldn't think of anything to do. She wanted to save the television watching until later, when she ran out of options. She looked around Steve's den for something entertaining.

"Slim pickings," she thought. "What does this boy do for fun?"

The only thing she could find was some printer paper and some pens. She sat down next to Steve, who appeared to be having a nightmare. She ran her fingers through his hair and whispered, "It's all right baby," into his ear. He calmed down instantly and a relieved look appeared on his face.

"Hmmmm.... what should I draw?" she wondered. She started to sketch out a house. She drew a wreathe on the door, and a Christmas tree in the window. On top of the tree, she drew her lord, Jesus Christ. She made snowmen appear on the front lawn with carrot noses and pipes in their mouths. She drew birds in the sky. She realized that the birds would all have flown south in the wintertime so she modified them into airplanes.

"Ahh! This is stupid!" Brandy thought, as she threw the pile of paper and pen onto Steve's end table. "There has to be something better to do than draw pictures, I feel like I'm in preschool."

She looked around the room and noticed the Super Nintendo sitting on the entertainment center. "That thing is a classic!" She thought. "I haven't played that system for years!" She looked through all of his games and the only one she recognized was Q-Bert. She put Q-Bert into the slot and powered the console and the television.

Many thoughts went through Brandy's head as she played the video game. The longer she played the worse she felt. Thoughts of the girl at the party ran through her mind. When she saw Steve about to rub the girls shoulders, she became enraged. She hoped she didn't make her anger too obvious. One thing she didn't want was Steve to think that she didn't trust him. Steve opened her up to a whole new world. Before she met Steve she thought all guys were trash. Steve showed her that every guy wasn't the same.

All this thinking made Brandy want a cigarette. She opened her purse and took out a pack of Marlboro Mediums. After she opened the box, she realized she only had one cigarette left. She took it out and noticed an oval blue pill at the bottom of the empty pack. Her cousin had given it to her the day before. She told Brandy to take it if she had trouble falling asleep. She really needed to sleep now. Her acid buzz was making her feel horrible. She just wanted it to stop.

She went into the kitchen and turned on the faucet. As she looked at the clock, it showed that it was already eight-thirty in the morning. "It's getting late," she thought. "I'm glad me and Steve have the next two days off work. We can catch up on our sleeping." Her hands felt dirty. She washed them with a bar of soap and then dried them on the towel hanging from the bottom cupboard. After pouring a glass of water, she swallowed the football shaped pill. It left an acidy taste in the back of her throat so she took another drink of water, which only made it worse.

"I need to get rid of this taste," she thought with a look of disgust on her face. She opened the fridge and saw many bottles of Gatorade. "This boy sure drinks a lot of Gatorade," she thought. After she dumped out the water she filled her glass halfway with the orange substance. The Gatorade did a much better job of killing the awful taste in her throat than the water.

She brought her beverage into the living room and set it down next to her drawing. She looked at it and wondered why she drew it. She hated Christmas. All Christmas did to her was remind her of what she didn't have. She never met her father. He had abandoned her before birth. According to Brandy, she had no father. Her crazy daredevil mother tried breaking the record for traveling around the entire planet in an airplane when Brandy was twelve years old. Everything was going good and she was way ahead of schedule. The news said there was no possible way she would not break the world record at the rate she was going. They were wrong. Her plane disappeared off the radar as she traveled through the Bermuda Triangle. She was never found. The last thing Brandy heard her mother say was "Wish me luck!"

Tears spilled down Brandy's face. She covered her face with her hands, hiding her tears from no one but ghosts. She had not thought of her mother in a long time. Glancing over, she saw Steve was still sleeping peacefully. His ankle appeared to be in better condition than earlier.

After Brandy calmed down, she turned off the Super Nintendo and surfed through the channels with the remote. "Nothing is ever on this early," she thought. Sick of flipping through the channels, she stopped and watched the news.

"Great, more snow," she thought sarcastically while watching the local weather report. "At least it's not snowing until Friday." The weather forecast predicted rain for the next three days and nights, starting at midnight that night, with a possibility of freezing rain on Thursday night and early morning.

"It's going to be a cold one this year," she thought as she nodded off to sleep.
